Precedence: bulk
win95 relies heavily on plug & play bios logic.
on most pentium MBs using Award Bios, you will notice that
IRQ7 is not listed in the ISA "assigned list". This means that
if you expect your sound card to be at irq 7, you cann tell
P&P that the IRQ has been used. The printer got assigned to
IRQ 7 for this reason it sounds like.
Also, on mb that have a build in IDE that uses 14&15, most
bios' I've used required you to set ISA 15 as being used,
as the bios is a little brain dead. The bios is read by
the mb, but the mb does not update the bios... wierd...
meaning I would expect the mbx, kowning that it uses 15 , to
set 15 as ISA and not Not Used in the reserved list.
By the way, if you are running nt and windows95, ALWAYS get
your system running on nt first or at least save/verify
checkings before rebooting into NT. Lose95 will try to
write information for you back into the P&P on some
boards.

I forgot to mention to take a look in Control Panel/System and look at the
hardware configuration Win95 is working with. I installed the final release
of Win95 this past weekend and for some reason, my sound card had an IRQ
interferring with what LPT1 wanted to be. Win95 is smart enough to point out
conficts (but not alert you of them outside of you looking for the
information). Once I corrected that too, I could print. :)
Have fun,
Dan
(Who misses the elegant autoconfig no darn IRQ/DMA wierdness of the Amiga!)
